WHAT CAN I DO?
You may know lots about recycling, but what can you actually do
yourself at home? Many homes are now getting recycling bins and
boxes. For those who don’t have them however, you can still
reduce and recycle lots of your rubbish.
Here’s what George, one of our education
officers does…
 |
When George does his shopping, he takes re-usable
bags. The ones in the picture are made out of recycled
cotton, and can be used over and over again. Many supermarkets
also sell extra-strong bags that you can re-use. This cuts
down on the number of plastic bags we use – how many
people have a drawer at home full of plastic bags??! |
 |
So much of what we buy can be recycled.
A lot of the rubbish in our bins is paper – which could
be recycled. So instead of throwing all his newspapers and
magazines in the bin, George has a bag to collect them all.
Once it is full, he takes the paper to his nearest civic amenity
site where there is a recycling bin for it. |
 |
George also has some boxes which he stores under
a shelf in his kitchen. He uses these to collect
all his used food and drinks cans, as well as his plastic
and glass bottles. Once they are full he takes these to the
civic amenity site so that they can be recycled. |
